Hemp Side Story…
“The CBD Boys” was a gang comprised of mostly progressive and upwardly mobile young street toughs from the Bowery section of New York. Known for their ethically conscious leather jackets and laid back demeanor they could be seen at one of any number of local juice spots puffing away on their Plain Jane CBD cigarettes.
Their cross town rivals were the fearsome “Ganja Cats” from the Lower East Side. A ragtag crew of ex tech entrepreneurs who eschewed the healing properties of CBD for more of a straight up THC vibe. The two cliques would regularly squabble over turf in a series of informal chats and cleverly worded emails that would frequently result in a coffee shop showdown.
One such encounter is detailed in Bartleby J. Farnsworth’s seminal book “For Whom the Bud Tolls.” It charts the rise of cannabis based mobs at the turn of the new millennium:
