Thanksgiving is meant to be a time to celebrate when peoples at odds, like the Pilgrims & The Wampanoag Tribe who fed them… or whichever football teams are playing that day, can come together peacefully and stuff their faces with each other like they’ve been waiting for harvest for months.
So too do battling family members come together under the pretense of peace and try to not talk about politics or religion, but inevitably after a few glasses of beer or wine end up diving deeply into both, with a dash of lifelong family grievances thrown in to really spice things up.
Like the Native Americans’ use of the peace pipe to help ease the tension of warring tribes, many of us have learned the best way to deal with such a dramatic day is to smoke a few fatties with their cooler cousins on “a walk”, and then come back to the dinner table more relaxed and even hungrier than ever.
