Hemp Side Story…
“The CBD Boys” was a gang comprised of mostly progressive and upwardly mobile young street toughs from the Bowery section of New York. Known for their ethically conscious leather jackets and laid back demeanor they could be seen at one of any number of local juice spots puffing away on their Plain Jane CBD cigarettes.
Their cross town rivals were the fearsome “Ganja Cats” from the Lower East Side. A ragtag crew of ex tech entrepreneurs who eschewed the healing properties of CBD for more of a straight up THC vibe. The two cliques would regularly squabble over turf in a series of informal chats and cleverly worded emails that would frequently result in a coffee shop showdown.
One such encounter is detailed in Bartleby J. Farnsworth’s seminal book “For Whom the Bud Tolls.” It charts the rise of cannabis based mobs at the turn of the new millennium:
“To mine eyes no such band of brothers conveyed a more relaxing and otherworldly quality then those “CBD Boys” when inhaling their most curious of rolls. It is said that their ingestion of Plain Jane brand CBD containing “cigarettes” would fortify them when tangling with the likes of the “Ganja Cats” — all of whom took pride in their collapsible bong contraptions and switchblade combs. The resulting scrum would most assuredly result in an epiphany between the two warring tribes. This would culminate in a large scale smoke-out followed by a picnic in the park. It was quite a sight and the smells emanating from their clashes would waft as far up as the Upper West Side.”
