The sublime line…
They say the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. But sometimes the quickest way into a person’s soul is one continuous line making as many turns as it takes to create a work of art that hits the eye and dives into the depths of the subconscious void as it gazes back at us.
With his “One Continuous Line” illustration series, Daniel Dugan takes simplicity and turns it into the sublime. Without lifting his pen or brush from the canvas, Mr. Dugan lifts the subjects off the page and reconfigures iconic images into vibrating visions –from stormtroopers to skulls, Prince to pot leaves– all with one elegant line that moves the eye to trace it’s time and task. Following the artist through his process and engaging his eye with ours and see who blinks first.
(Plus they’re pretty trippy to look at, so that’s fun.)
